Hey guys – it’s been a while since we have updated here. Besides moving across the country, Hero has some big changes cooking, so we have had our noses to the grindstone and we are just getting it all done. More on all that soon enough. We hope to start announcing some of the changes in the next month or two.

In addition to a list of our upcoming events, here are some photos from our brand new booth setup, we designed and constructed this setup by hand, completely out of recycled wood pallets. And yes, it fits completely into our Honda Element. Bonus! We cannot wait to start filling these walls up with some of the new products we have lined up for later this year. Stay tuned.

Buffalo, you have been an amazing support system to us over the last 10 years and you have been a huge reason we have been able to grow this business. But, the time has time for us to move on.

We are hitting the road for Southern California in just over a week and we just don’t have enough room in the truck to take it all. Come help us lighten our load with one last scratch ‘n dent (and more) poster sale to end all others! Many of you have been to them before, but this time we’ve gotten real crazy and dropped the price on the scratch and dent posters from $5 to $3!! Besides the scratch and dent posters, we will have lots of other marked down prints, rare sold out prints, hard to find pieces, out of print tees and other merch and so much more. After over a year and a half of plotting and planning, it’s time to load-up the Honda Element, attach a trailer and start heading west to our new home in Long Beach, California. As we make this epic journey there is only so much room in our sensible-sized SUV. Not all of the prints and beloved pieces of merchandise can make the trip out west. Some of these items need to be adopted by you and find a new home in your house, apartment or office space. So, we’re putting together an epic sale for an epic journey!

Tubes Across America is a chance for you to grab some Hero merch at stupid low prices and it enables us to coast from coast to coast, sea to shining sea with a little extra jingle jangle to purchase roadside snacks, fireworks and complete that state spoon collection. All prints in these sale tubes will be chosen at random from our collection of hand silkscreen printed gig posters and art prints. Scratch and dent posters refer to posters that are outside of an edition of prints, whether it be due to damage like a dinged corner, a tear or a crease or a printing error like an incorrect color, imperfect registration, etc. We will not be taking requests or suggestions due to the fact that the majority or these tubes will be pre-packed for ease and speed with ordering. Ho Ho Ho – it’s that time again!!

We very much appreciate your support always, but especially this time of year. By spending your money with small, independently owned businesses, like ours, your money not only goes further, but it is supporting a business built with love and care (ok and maybe some blood, sweat and tears, too).

This time of year, we do our very best to pack up and ship orders as soon as we possibly can. All orders will ship within 2-3 business days from the time payment is received and in some cases even sooner. Delivery within the US takes 2-3 days via USPS Priority Mail, which is how most of our packages are sent and 10-14 days for International orders sent First Class International Mail. Please allow plenty of time for shipping.

Below are the order deadlines for shipping in time to ensure you’ll receive your items in time:

US holiday shipping deadline for standard delivery via USPS First Class Mail (greeting cards, small prints, tees): order by December 19 for December 24 delivery

US holiday shipping deadline for standard delivery via USPS Priority Mail (posters, multiple items, etc): order by December 20 for December 24 delivery

Hero will be setup this Saturday, December 8th at the Handmade Arcade from 11am-7pm at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center (DLCC) in Downtown Pittsburgh. We hope you come out to see us and all of the other lovely vendors to get some handmade goods crafted with love for your holiday gifts this year!  Oh and if you do make it, be sure you swing by and wish our Mark and “Happy Birthday!”. We’ll be celebrating his birthday this year peddling our products

A ‘LIL BIT MORE ABOUT HANDMADE ARCADE:

WHAT: Handmade Arcade is Pittsburgh’s first and largest independent craft fair, now in its 9th year. The annual Handmade Arcade was created to give grassroots, independent crafters an opportunity to show and sell their wares, and to provide an alternative to traditional craft and art fairs.

WHEN: Saturday, December 8th 11am-7pm (see below for info on early birdie passes)

WHERE: David L. Lawrence Convention Center (DLCC) at the corner of Penn Ave. and 10th Street, in downtown Pittsburgh. We are in Hall C.

You can find additional information about the Convention Center at their website, including driving directions, information on bus routes, and on nearby hotels. Event parking at the Convention Center is $10. There are also various parking garages throughout the downtown area.

Directions to the David L. Convention Center (DLCC) can found on online here. The DLCC has a large parking lot with a low daily of $10 for the day. There are no in and out privileges for our vendor. Info can be found here.

HOW MUCH: Handmade Arcade is FREE and open to the public, so stop on by. If you want to get there early and get a jump-start on the other shoppers, get yourself an Early Birdie Pass.

Early Birdie Passes:

Early Birdie Passes are $15 each, which provide shoppers with the exclusive opportunity to shop one hour before the event opens to the public. Early Birdie shoppers will have first pick to purchase all the unique and one-of-a-kind items that crafters will be selling and be given a bag full of goodies and coupons. (Children 12 and under are admitted free with an adult.) Passes can be purchased online or at Wildcard at 4209 Butler Street Pittsburgh, PA 15201.

Early Birdie RAFFLE! As a bonus perk of being an Early Birdie, you are eligible to enter Handmade Arcade’s raffle. You’ll receive a ticket the day of show, when you check in and get your goodie bag. Simply write your name and phone number on the ticket and drop it in the box provided. The drawing will be at 11:30 a.m. at the show, but you need not be present to win. Thanks again for supporting Handmade Arcade!

Back on the road again, Hero will be set up this weekend in Chicago at the 7th Annual Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Market! 

Join us and lots of other indie makers! December 1 + 2, 2012 from 11am-6pm each day at the Pulaski Park Fieldhouse (1419 W. Blackhawk St.) for the coziest Renegade Craft Fair of them all! The Chicago Holiday Market is always an especially festive affair - There will be hundreds of crafters along with tasty local food + booze, workshops, a photobooth, DJs + more.

See the full artist line-up here! Find your favorite makers on the official map of the fair, too! We are booth #65, downstairs in gym #2, right by the DJ!! We hope you come by and see us! We will have our full inventory of our most popular gigposters, art prints, greeting cards and more!

Saturday, November 10 we will be in Washington DC for Crafty Bastards Arts & Crafts Fair.

Tuesday, November 13, we are headed to the University of Maryland where we will be setting up the Hero Pop-Up Shop at the Art Gallery.

Wednesday, November 14 the Hero Pop-Up shop will be set up in Philly at the Navy Yard, with the URBN world corporate headquarters (Urban Outfitters, Free People, Anthropologie) as part of their Farmers Market.

Thursday, November 15 we will be at the Masthead Gallery in Philly where Mark will be doing a LIVE broadcast of the Adventures in Design podcast (don’t worry Billy will be there via the power of the internet). We will also have the Hero Pop-Up Shop set up.

Saturday and Sunday November 17 and 18 we will be set up at the first-ever Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Market in Brooklyn.

We are so excited to be taking part in the first-ever Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Market in Brooklyn which will take place on November 17 + 18, 2012 from 11am-6pm each day at the East River State Park (aka the Williamsburg Waterfront)! We’ll be hitting everyone’s favorite borough after our 10 day east coast road trip and we will be joined by a slew of wonderful crafters, hands-on workshops, food, music, and more! You can see the full line-up or crafters here!

We will have our usual goods and wares with us, plus some brand new prints you haven’t seen before!, so make sure to stop by. We will be in booth #68 over near the DJ and the photo booth!

How do I get there?

We encourage you to walk, bicycle or take public transportation to the Fair!

The fair is taking place at the East River State Park (aka the Williamsburg Waterfront), at N. 8th St. and Kent Ave.

By Car from Manhattan:

Take the Williamsburg Bridge and get off at the Broadway exit. Make a sharp right onto Broadway, drive a few blocks blocks to Kent Ave., and continue on Kent Ave. until you reach N. 8th St. The entrance to the park is at 8th and Kent.

By train:

Take the L Train to Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn. Walk west on N. 8th Street for three and half blocks to Kent Avenue.  The fair is located at the East River State Park (N. 7th St. and Kent Ave.). The main entrance to the fair is on 7th St., near the waterfront.

Take the G Train to Nassau Avenue in Brooklyn. Walk north a half block to Norman Avenue and make a left.  Walk four blocks at which point the Norman will make a slight southwest turn and become Wythe Avenue. Continue on Wythe for nine blocks to N. 7th Street.  Turn right on N. 7th and walk one block to Kent Avenue.  The fair is located at the East River State Park (N. 7th St. and Kent Ave.). The main entrance to the fair is on 7th St., near the waterfront.

By ferry:

From E. 34th St. / Midtown, Hunters Point South / Long Island City or India St. / Greenpoint, take the East River Ferry Southbound to N. 6th St. / N. Williamsburg.

From Wall St. / Pier 11, Brooklyn Bridge Park / DUMBO or Schaefer Landing / S. Williamsburg, take the East River Ferry Northboundto N. 6th St. / N. Williamsburg.

From the ferry terminal, walk one block on 6th. St. and make a left at Kent Avenue. The fair is located at the East River State Park (N. 7th St. and Kent Ave.).

Hosted by AID’s Mark Brickey (Hero Design Studio), Mark will be live on location at the gallery to moderate, interview and will attempt to entertain all those in attendance who wish to have their voices finally be heard on the Adventures In Design podcast. His charming co-host, Billy Baumann (Delicious Design League), will be brought into the room by the power of the internet, the design nerd’s equivalent to a Tupac Shakur hologram. Join us for a historic recording of the world-famous Shop Talk; featuring mini-sit down interviews and audience questions as the Circle of Trust arrives on the east coast for the very first time.

This event is part of a small east coast tour that Hero will be taking beginning on November 10th at the Crafty Bastards Arts & Crafts Fair where we will be set up selling our goods and wares. From DC we are headed to Baltimore to set up a one-day Hero Pop-Up Shop at The Art Gallery at the University of Maryland. After Baltimore we are headed to Philadelphia where we are going to be set up selling at the Navy Yard: Urban Outfitters, Free People and Anthropologie’s world HQ, on November 14th as part of their employees only Farmers Market. After this event at Masthead in Philly, we will hit the road again to head to Brooklyn for the first-ever (in Brooklyn) Renegade Craft Fair Holiday Market. Stay tuned for more information about all of these events. Maybe we will see some of you along our travels, we sure hope so!
