We are excited and very proud to have been included in this new book Impressive: Printmaking, Letterpress and Graphic Design from Gestalten Press. We aren’t even sure which posters of ours made it to the book, so we really cannot wait to get our hands on this book and page through it all. If it is anything like the last book Gestalten put out that we were featured in, Naïve – Modernism and Folklore in Contemporary Graphic Design, it promises to more than impress and we will be among some extremely talented company.
Here is a bit more about the book:
Inspired by the challenge of hands-on tweaks and unpredictable results as well as the tactile qualities of different inks, papers, and binding techniques, today’s creatives are rediscovering old-fashioned printing methods and crafts. Impressive is a topical exploration of the interplay between current trends in graphic design and traditional handiwork such as letterpress printing, hand-cut linotype, chiselled woodblocks, and embossing. In addition to a rich selection of invitations, business cards, stationery, posters, and other material printed by hand, it offers personal insights from designers who are using old-fashioned techniques to create cutting-edge work.
Impressive investigates the interplay between traditional handiwork and current trends in graphic design. The work collected in this book shows how relevant and exciting the modern use of traditional design forms can be and how much it can inspire the visuality of the future.
