My favorite art memory is when I got selected to be in the all high photo exhibit back in high school. And when I discovered Hero of course!
pick me, pick me!
Favorite musical memory? Many, many, but the favorite has to be Yo-Yo Ma with the Buffalo Philharmonic.
My favorite art memory is last year, walking to Allentown Fest, when I discovered some new artists/friends, selling paintings and vintage eyeglasses from their porch. Only in Buffalo.
My favorite Buffalo art memory was my first personal art show/exhibit. Seeing my all of my family and friends show up and check out my designs, paintings, and photography was hands down the most exciting artistic experience I’ve ever encountered. Any party that combines good times with friends and artwork will prove to be a memorable moment for sure.
My favorite art/music memory was when me and my friends won the Artvoice battle of bands at the tralf. All of our friends showed up and cheered us on, it was awesome!
My favorite Buffalo art memory is being naked with a few thousand people in the central terminal during the Spencer Tunick shoot. Buffalo loves to get their naked on, most of it is bad naked; but they still love it.
Had to be during the Wilco show. My employer was one of the sponsors so we got some cool perks. Walking back stage and helped steady some steps for Robby Takac and fam, a nice brush with greatness.
During my first time at the Allentown Art Festival we werent that enthused by the wares but became rivited by the mohawks on these guys walking in front of us. One was double hawk. each a differant color that morphed into three in the back, all new colors, and continued down the back in a braid. His friend had long dangley chains of safety pins running from each ear lobe to a nostril. It seemed that they could easily get caught on something and tear some flesh.”I wonder what Thanksgiving’s like at their house” my friend Matt wondered.
Seeing Bob Wier the first time he played (with Rat Dog) after Jerry Garcia died. The feeling was very electric and powerful due to the emotion surrounding Garcia’s death – Unforgettable.
I remember going to the Town Ballroom for a show in high school to see Bayside right after their drummer died. Very sad but so good.
My favorite Buffalo music memory was when Howie Day played the Square in 2005. I was not impressed by Howie, but the opener was unbelievable (Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers) – that show started my love for the band, and concerts/venues in Buffalo. I had been to a handful of venues that were all large scale; all because of one set at a great Buffalo event, I found so much more throughout the city that I love that has made such a difference in my life, including venues/places, music, art, and people!
My favorite Buffalo music memory is seeing Flogging Molly with my sister. Great music. Gear family. great town.
The Allentown Art Festival is of course a tradition for my family, and last year was the first year I took my son. All three generations of men in my family were gathered together at the Art Festival for the first time and it was awesome introducing my boy to funnel cakes and giant lemonades as we perused the booths and tents.
My favorite Buffalo music memory is seeing Chuck Berry play the Buffalo Bike Blast downtown August of 2003 with my dad and brother (dad taught me that John Lennon once said “If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it ‘Chuck Berry’.”). I was 18 years old watching Chuck Berry duck-walk around the stage like he was 25 again. He was 75! I was pretty stunned, and to this day, I consider myself lucky to have seen a father of rock and roll in my lifetime.
Jazz concert on a July night on the lawn at Artpark with good wine and good friends.
My (otherwise protective suburban) mother dropped me and my brother off outside rich stadium for a dead show. I was 9, he 11.
Too many to list – but I sure loved hanging out with Tommy Ramone at an empty Mohawk Place regale us with stories – like how everyone at CBGB’s thought Television were going to huge and that Blondie sucked, and how surprised he was when Blondie actually made it big and Television became the underground “cult” band.
Sarah McLaughlin at Artpark & many shows there since & Shakespear in Delaware Pk with a bottle of wine, munchies and friends. Buffalo is an awesome arts town.
Thursdays at La Conga Loca, Roswell Rudd at the vault at Hallwalls, the North American New Music Festival at the Cabaret 360, Sam Noto’s Renaissance on Bailey…
Favorite concert in Buffalo, Pearl Jam this year. For an arena concert, their performance really gave you your money’s worth.
Favorite musical memory was Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at the Tralf! Or the National at the same place…Of Montreal at the Icon…too many to choose from!
My favorite art memory was when we used to have Murder the Word. Whatever happened to that? I remember one in like 2000, somewhere around then, that was really fun. Like Artists & Models but with more words.
My first concert ever – Faith No More, Metallica and Guns N Roses. I was 12. Followed closely by the time Hero presented for the Ad Club, of course
My favorite music memory was when the Avett Brothers played for FREE at the square last summer.
My favorite music memory was when I saw the Chili Peppers and STP live at Darien Lake in 99.
My favorite music memory was when I got to see Motley Crue when I was 10 yrs old – had to go with my mom.
My fiancee (girlfriend at the time) and I saw Zox perform at The Mohawk Place four years ago. They played an amazing rock cover of Pachelbel’s Canon, complete with electric violin. Now we’re going to use that song as our introduction at our wedding reception.
My favorite Buffalo art memory was the first Tri-Mania. Being surrounded by so many people who love art and music. Art and music and dance and people watching in the form of one giant party was fantastic!
The list is too long… however, I will say that seeing Bonobo at the Tralf this past April was amazing. I went with my boyfriend and two other couples we’ve been friends with for a long time and sat on the balcony. The show blew me away, and Andreya Triana has a killer voice that added to the set. Aside from that show, I feel that Buffalo brings a lot of diverse acts, which makes it easy to find something to do every weekend.
As far as art goes, I would have to say (being a broke college student) I have always really enjoyed the free admission to the Knox on Fridays! It’s great to be able to go to all the new exhibits without breaking the bank.
Everyday is artistically musical in Buffalo.
Best Music Memory – Only having to walk 6 blocks from my apartment to see My Morning Jacket and Wilco
I would have to say the Wilco/MMJ show at the knox even though I missed out on the awesome Hero Poster for that event.
The Ramones at Rooftops
One of my favorite musical memories is seeing the Peter Brotzmann tentet at the old Soundlab.
My favorite memory is Dropkick Murphys at thursday in the square a couple years back. so much fun!
My own stencil collaboration with a dear friend.
Running around in the ‘pit’ to some serious Buffalo Punk Rawk at the Showplace Theater
First night of Tragically Hip at Artpark in 2009.
my favorite buffalo music memory was the first real club show i ever went to. Reel Big Fish with my brother for my birthday at the Icon
I’ve had so many wonderful music experiences here in Buffalo it’s too hard to pick! I always have fun at the Tuesday in the Park series on Bidwell Pkwy!
The Grass Roots reforming for a show at the Bayview Beach Club … also on the bill … Papa John Creach. I believe Buffalo’s own Fat Brat opened. Amazing show.
